Custom Marble Work in Artistic Patterns

About Studio Tile

History:

Studio Tile & Marble came together in 2014 when two experienced friends combined their skillsets into providing services for architects, general contractors, and designers. Angelo’s background included over a decade in manufacturing, engineering, and construction, while Giulia is a well-established interior designer from Italy, who has worked in the natural stone industry for her entire career.

While starting small, they focused on using their knowledge of architecture, interior design, engineering, and advanced manufacturing to provide what many of the smaller stone shops could not. By providing a bespoke experience to customers, as well as following professional architectural standards and designs, they carved a niche in the market of countertops, cladding, and flooring.

What we do

2cm Marble Flooring and Cladding

Whether you just want a single floor medallion, or your entire floors and walls in marble, we can do it. Combining techniques, we use the waterjet to let the artistic vision come to life in a number of different materials. We specialize in natural stone designs for tiles, flooring, cladding, and other artistic expressions. The amazing tolerances of these machines, as well as the 5 axis option, allows any design imaginable to be cut in almost any material.

Stamped structural engineering drawings available on large scale cladding projects. We can design, fabricate, and install all stone and structural components.

2cm Marble Tiles

Custom designed and fabricated marble tiles in unique and artistic patterns. Cut to size tiles, and tile art. Traditional and modern stone tile patterns. Made in Illinois.

2cm Stone Mural and Mosaics

We are able to make large scale mosaics from natural stone, just as we would design a floor, we can create artwork for a mural made in stone. The natural colors of the stones are used as paint and different shades of greys and whites can provide a shading detail. Since this is a “painting in stone”, the veining in the marble also plays a role in the final outcome of the mural.

2cm Handmade Palladiana Terrazzo Tiles

We take 2cm stone remnants and hand cut them into patterns, to embed them in cement in standard tile sizes. This specific type of terrazzo style originated in Venice, Italy where trade workers would get leftover marble from the project, and use them for flooring in their home. The marble pieces are larger than standard terrazzo, and can still be seen in Italy today. Generally this technique is installed onsite, but can be made into separate tiles as well.

Marble Furniture and Marble Artwork

Since we like making cool things in stone, we also make select furniture and artwork in marble. We make 100% of everything we sell in Illinois, including furniture. Lamps, coffee tables, bars, and other creative stone artwork are for sale in this category.

We are working on a design for a smaller marble sculpture that will be cut on a 7-axis robotic CNC milling machine, and finished by hand. The process will be posted on Instagram.

Countertops, Fireplaces, Kitchens, and Baths

Any application of stone work we can do, installation, measuring, and fabricating included.

Our Process

  • For us to provide an accurate quote, we will need total square footage of the project, which material level, any other additional services you are interested in, and the location of the project to be delivered. An accurate quote will require the specific design or a photo of something similar you would like to match.

  • We work with all of the local Chicago natural stone suppliers, and if the material can’t be sourced locally, it will have to be special ordered. Special order lead times vary greatly, especially after 2020. Alternate selections can be chosen as well. You will receive a 4k video of the actual stone slabs, as well as photos. Once the material selection is approved, we move on to the design stage.

  • This is where we custom design your project. At this stage, we will layout the tile pattern on the room, make all adjustments, and send shop drawings for client approval. We are also able to provide architectural drawings, as well as rendering. If you feel you want to change something, redline the drawings for revision. All of the CAD design is then completed for the final designs, and all of the pieces are drawn and labeled, overlaying on top of the digital image of the actual material. After the drawings and material is approved it is prepared for fabrication.

  • Here we bring your idea to life. The final design file is sent to the waterjet to cut out each piece individually with less than 1mm joints between pieces. after the pieces are cut, they are all labeled, and assembled like a mosaic design. A mesh backing is glued to the back of each tile, and all the pieces are glued together. Finally, each tile is polished.

  • All projects are clearly labeled in multiple places with individual part numbers to each tile, and the we build crates for delivery.

  • We deliver for free within 50 miles of downtown Chicago. We deliver ourselves or ship LTL. We guarantee that all pieces will arrive in tact. If anything is broken in transit, we will make a new one and deliver free of charge.
